Find Hamilton Federal Releases

To find a Hamilton County person released from federal custody, choose the source that matches the federal case stage. The Bureau of Prisons locator preserves many released results from 1982 forward. The U.S. Marshals Service handles federal pretrial custody and may house people in local contract jails, but it has no comparable historical public locator. A BOP “Released” result ends BOP custody only. The federal docket explains the legal order, and another state, local, or immigration custodian may still hold the person.

BOP Release Destinations

Hamilton County's official dockets identify multiple defendants as being in federal custody. That evidence makes BOP a confirmed serving jail for Hamilton matters. It does not establish that every Hamilton detainee goes there or that any placement lasts. Confirm the named person's location with the federal docket or USMS and the official BOP jail page.

A federal custody-out may show a release order, sentence completion, or transfer to the community. It may also show time served, return to Hamilton under a writ, transfer to another custodian, commitment to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, or delivery on a federal or immigration hold. “Released from BOP” describes one facility event. It does not by itself say that all custody ended.

Verify the destination: a transfer code or named receiving agency means the person left federal custody but did not necessarily return to the community.

Confirm a BOP Release

Use a booking number when possible. Names can repeat, and a dated Hamilton docket may become stale after a court order, sentence event, or transport. BOP's current response resolves physical location; BOP's historical release record resolves the facility endpoint.

  1. Ask the federal docket or USMS whether BOP is the current or last federal custodian.
  2. Give BOP the full name and booking identifier or approximate booking date.
  3. Ask whether the person remains physically in federal custody.
  4. If not, request the release time, release code, destination, and authority.
  5. Compare the response to the federal court order or docket.

If a federal release order predates the release time, the records can both be correct. The court supplied authority, while jail staff completed identification, hold, property, and release processing. If another agency appears, continue the custody chain rather than calling the event a community release.

BOP Release Record Details

The federal custodian maintains the most direct proof of departure. Ask for existing records tied to the exact booking. Avoid asking staff to explain a whole case or compute a result that is not already maintained.

BOP retains many released results in its locator from 1982 forward. Older federal records may require the National Archives, while FOIA is the agency-record fallback. A removed web entry is therefore not proof that the underlying record was destroyed.

BOP Contact Record

The official sheriff material supplies the jail's address and nonemergency line. BOP has no Hamilton-specific 24-hour or 72-hour release feed, so a direct inquiry or written public-information request is the documented route.

Call before visiting because the research does not provide dedicated records hours. For a written request, identify one register number or named person, request electronic copies, and ask for a cost estimate. Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs public information, but exceptions may protect excluded or protected federal record fields. If something is withheld, ask for the cited exception and any Attorney General ruling number.

Chapter 552 calls for prompt production within a reasonable time. It does not promise all records within ten business days. Texas rules require an agency response under federal records rules, which is why a narrow request tied to one register number or named person is useful.

BOP Image and Source Check

The BOP Inmate Locator can retain a released federal result after custody ends.

The displayed status must still be read as the end of BOP custody, not proof that no other agency holds the person.

BOP and Hamilton Records

BOP and Hamilton answer different questions. BOP establishes the physical release event. Hamilton preserves the jurisdictional register, transport trail, and case authority. For misdemeanors, consult the Hamilton County Clerk. Felony filed records belong to the District Clerk. Search by case number first and obtain the actual order rather than relying on a short portal label.

Useful court documents include a federal release order, dismissal, judgment, sentence, jail-credit entry, community-supervision order, TDCJ commitment, revocation, or later discharge order. A docket entry points to an event but does not prove the exact minute BOP completed release.

Hamilton's permanent jail trail also matters when a live display is gone. Ask Hamilton for the jail-register entry and its transport or transfer documentation. Reconcile full name, birth date, case number, booking number, dates, and destination across both counties.

BOP Custody Status Terms

Record the agency's exact wording. Do not translate a local code loosely when its meaning controls whether the person entered the community or another custody system.

Bond release
Exit while the Hamilton case continues under stated conditions.
Writ return
Movement connected to a court order for temporary production, not necessarily freedom.
Transfer
Departure from BOP into another custodian's control.
Time served
Completion of the identified jail term, subject to other holds.
Commitment
Delivery under a sentence, often to the state system after intake.

A person entering TDCJ may disappear from BOP before the state search displays an intake result. Allow for system lag, then use the TDCJ number or SID number. A projected state release date is not proof that the person has left prison.

No BOP Recent-Release Feed

No official recent-release window was documented for federal custody. Do not infer one from a generic listing or an unofficial service. For “who left today,” ask BOP for maintained release records within a defined period. For one named Hamilton person, the narrower booking-specific request is more reliable.

The absence of a live entry is negative evidence only. It cannot distinguish bond, transfer, TDCJ commitment, hospital movement, another warrant, escape, or death. The release code and destination supply the missing meaning.

Use the Hamilton County release-search path when the federal custodian is still unknown. That path begins with the federal docket or USMS, then follows the actual custodian and court authority.

Note: Preserve the exact BOP result and observation date because a current-status answer and a historical release record address different moments.

BOP Released Result Meaning

The BOP locator accepts Register, DCDC, FBI, or INS numbers, or a name with race, age, and sex. A location of RELEASED, or a past release date without a facility, means the person is no longer in BOP custody. IN TRANSIT is not release. Community Corrections Management may reflect halfway-house or home-confinement administration rather than final discharge. A future date remains projected.

BOP coverage begins in 1982 and includes people held for reasons other than a federal conviction, such as pretrial detention, civil contempt, or material-witness custody. Use the federal docket to interpret the result. Older records follow BOP guidance to the National Archives.

Federal Custody Stage Matters

USMS assumes custody of federal arrestees and often uses state, local, or private contract beds before acquittal, release, or commitment. It does not offer a BOP-style public historical release locator. For a pretrial Hamilton County federal matter, use the federal district-court docket and its detention or release order, then identify the physical jail if a precise departure time is needed. A local roster disappearance may simply mark Marshal transport.

After a federal sentence and BOP commitment, the BOP locator becomes the main public route. Search by number first. Record name, register number, status or location, and release date exactly as displayed. A released result does not end federal supervised release, and it cannot rule out later state, local, or immigration custody. If the displayed date is in the future, identify it as projected.

FOIA is the fallback for agency records not shown in the locator. For pre-1982 imprisonment, follow BOP's direction to the National Archives. Presence in BOP data also does not prove conviction because the system has included pretrial detainees, material witnesses, civil-contempt custody, and people whose charges were dismissed. The court record supplies legal context. Keep that context apart from the BOP custody endpoint so neither source is asked to prove more than it records.
